In this article, you will find clear and comprehensive information on what to do if someone asks you to pay a fee for a meeting arranged through the platform and then requests additional payments or your bank details, how to recognize scam messages impersonating Skokka, and the steps you should take to protect yourself.
How the scam works
A common situation reported by users is the following:
A user arranges a meeting with an escort through the platform.
The person asks for a “safety” payment, claiming it is refundable.
After the first payment is made, the person demands additional payments.
When the user refuses and asks for a refund, the person stops responding.
Later, the user receives a fake email requesting Skokka account verification, providing login credentials (email and password).
After the victims access the account, they are asked to enter their bank details in order to process the refund, which results in their financial information being stolen.
This is a payment and phishing scam. Phishing is a type of fraud where scammers attempt to obtain sensitive information such as bank account details, credit card numbers, or login credentials.
Does Skokka ever request payments by email?
No. We never request payments by email for any service, listing, or fee.
How can I recognise if an email is a scam?
The message asks you to make a payment via email, something we never do.
The sender’s email address is not an official address from our platform.
The message creates a sense of urgency or pressures you to act quickly.
Why is the request for bank details dangerous?
If someone asks for your bank details after a failed meeting or refund request, this is a major red flag.
Sharing bank details can lead to:
Unauthorized transactions.
Identity theft.
Further fraud attempts.
Loss of access to your financial accounts.
What should I do if I paid a fee?
If you paid a “safety” fee and were asked for more money, take these steps immediately:
Stop all communication with the person.
Do not send additional payments, even if they promise a refund.
Do not share your bank details or personal information.
Save all evidence, including messages, emails, usernames, and payment confirmations.
Contact your bank or payment provider immediately to report the transaction.
Report the user to our support team.
Acting quickly may reduce financial damage.
What should I do if I already shared my bank details?
If you already shared your bank information:
Contact your bank immediately and explain the situation.
Request monitoring or temporary suspension of your account if advised.
Change passwords for your email and financial accounts.
Report the incident to local law enforcement.
Do not wait.
Can the platform recover my money?
We do not manage private payments between users and we do not collect any fees for meetings, so we’re unable to recover funds.
However, reporting the scam helps protect other users, allows us to investigate and block fraudulent accounts, and improves overall platform safety.
What should I do if I am unsure whether a user is legitimate?
If you are unsure about the authenticity of a user or their message, do not reply, click on any links, or share personal information. Instead, contact us through our official support channels to verify the communication before taking any action.
