Find out why your SMS verification code may not arrive and how to resolve each possible cause yourself.
- The SMS code is required to confirm your registration and verify the telephone number in your advert.
- At present, you can only verify Italian telephone numbers (country code +39).
- The most common causes are: an incorrectly entered number, insufficient credit, promotional message blocking, spam filtering, weak signal, a faulty SIM card, a change of device or incompatible messaging app settings.
- A number may also be rejected if it has been blocked following a previous violation.
- If the problem persists, restart your phone, request the code again or contact your mobile network operator.
Why the SMS verification code is required
The SMS verification code is required for two reasons:
- Account registration: to confirm your identity when creating your profile.
- Telephone number verification in the advert: to validate the contact number displayed in your advert.
Without completing this verification, you cannot complete your registration or publish adverts.
Important: at present, the system can only verify Italian telephone numbers with the +39 country code. If you use a foreign number, the verification code cannot be sent.
Common problems and solutions
If you do not receive the SMS verification code, the problem is almost always related to one of the following situations:
❯ Telephone number entered incorrectly → Check that you have entered the correct country code followed by the full number, without hyphens, full stops or spaces.
❯ Non-Italian number → The system only accepts numbers with the +39 country code. Use an Italian telephone number to complete the verification.
❯ Number blocked due to a previous violation → If your number has been blocked following a violation of the platform's policies, the verification code cannot be sent to that number. In this case, contact Customer Support for further information.
❯ Pay-as-you-go line with insufficient credit or restrictions → Check your balance and the validity of your plan directly in your mobile network operator's app.
❯ Promotional messages blocked → If you have previously enabled a block on promotional messages, automated verification SMS messages may be filtered by mistake. Open your mobile network operator's app or online customer area and check that receiving SMS messages is enabled.
❯ SMS marked as spam → Check the blocked messages or spam folder on your phone. If necessary, contact your mobile network operator and ask them to remove any relevant restrictions.
❯ Weak or unstable network signal → Move to an area with a stronger signal, or switch aeroplane mode on and off to force your phone to reconnect to the network.
❯ Faulty or incorrectly inserted SIM card → Switch off your phone, remove the SIM card, carefully reinsert it and switch the device back on.
❯ Recent change of device → Check the messaging settings on your new phone and make sure SMS is enabled as the default method for receiving messages.
❯ Messaging app with incompatible settings → Check your messaging app settings and, if necessary, restore the default settings.
What to do if the SMS verification code still does not arrive
If you have checked all the causes listed above and the SMS verification code still does not arrive, follow these steps:
- Wait a few minutes, then request the code again.
- Restart your phone and try again.
- Contact your mobile network operator to check whether there are any active restrictions on your line.
